After completing the course, you will receive your practice driving license and can start practice driving privately or take driving lessons with an authorised driving instructor.
You can enroll the Basic Traffic Course from the age of 15. At the age of 25, you are exempt from the basic course but must take the courses Duties at the scene of an accident, Measures in the event of an accident (first aid) and Driving in the dark (Mørkedemo).
The Basic Traffic Course is compulsory for everyone who wants to get a driver's license for the first time. The course gives you a basic understanding of being a driver. You will gain basic knowledge about the goals of traffic education in Norway as well as the main rules of traffic, people in traffic, the driving process, duties in the event of accidents, measures in the event of accidents and driving in the dark.
Majorstuen Trafikkskole offers a Basic Traffic Course with experienced driving instructors who go through the syllabus in a thorough and understandable way.
When you have completed the basic traffic course, you will receive your practice driving licence. The license gives you the right to practice drive, and must be presented together with photo ID, both when you take part in driving lessons with us and when you practice driving privately.
At vegvesen.no, you can log in to Din Side to see the status of practice driving licenses and driving in the dark. If you are stopped at a traffic control during a practice drive, you must either show the paper certificate you have been sent or log into your pages at the Norwegian Road Administration and show the current status of the practice driving certificate.
A basic traffic course lasts 17 course hours spread over a minimum of five sessions. To be able to participate in the course, you must be 15 years old or in the 10th year of secondary school. The course consists of both theory and practice. When you have completed a basic traffic course at Majorstuen Trafikkskole, you will have a good understanding of how traffic works and how to navigate it.
Driving in the dark is part of the Basic Traffic Course and takes place in a car in real traffic situations. The traffic teacher is driving, while you as a student are a passenger. We recommend that you take dark driving as early as possible in the training.
If you take the Basic Traffic Course in the period March 16th to the 31st of October without having completed the Dark Driving Demo, your license will only be valid for the period of March 16th to the 31st of October. In order to be able to practice driving in the period of November 1st to March 15th, you must complete Driving in the dark.
