Step 1. Basic Traffic Course

Before you can practice drive or take part in driving lessons, you must have completed the Basic Traffic Course. The Basic Traffic Course is required for everyone between the ages of 15 and 25, for those over 25 only the first aid course and the Dark Driving Demo course are required.

You can choose whether you want to complete your driving test with automatic or manual transmission. If you complete your training with an automatic transmission, you get a code in your driving license that restricts you from driving cars with manual transmission. If you later want to upgrade your license for driving a car with manual transmission, you have to take the final driving test one more time.

Step 2. Car treatment

Before driving in traffic, it is important that you control the car so well that you can direct your attention to other road users. At this stage, you will also acquire knowledge about, among other things, people in traffic, environmentally friendly driving and what responsibilities you have as a driver. The training can take place at a traffic school, privately or in a combination. Many do not manage their final test due to insufficient training at this particular stage.

How many driving lessons you need must be adapted to your needs and how much you practice drive on your own. It is important to reach the goal of the step you are currently at. Step 2 is concluded with a tutoring session. You and your driving instructor must together assess whether you have good enough skills to go to step 3.

Step 3. Driving in traffic

On this step, you will learn to drive in varied traffic, and become virtually independent. You will learn, among other things, about:

  • Road user groups and conflicts of interest
  • Driving efficiently, environmentally friendly and economical
  • Reducing the risk of accidents
  • Getting overtaken and overtaking

The training can take place at a traffic school, privately or in a combination. Towards the end of step 3, you must complete a safety course on the track. The course is four hours long and will help you avoid accidents. You will learn, among other things, how to secure people and goods. Your driving style determines whether you have, or lose, control of the car.

Step 4. Final Training

During this step, you will become so good that you can drive in a responsible manner in good interaction with other road users. Now you are nearing the end of your training, and it may be a good idea to apply for a driver's license. It must be done before you can take the theory test. The aim of the final training is to enable you to drive safely and independently. You must also be able to interact well with other road users. This is what you should be able to do:

  • Choose low-risk driving styles
  • Prevent accidents from happening
  • Be aware of how you can improve as a driver, even after you have obtained your driving licence
